Overview

Estraha is an interactive mobile marketplace where owners promote properties — resorts, chalets, wedding halls, camps, vacation houses — and guests search by criteria, view rich property details (photos, video, amenities, day-by-day pricing, ratings, map, comments) and book.

The problem

Guests struggled to compare properties because pricing varied by day, photos were inconsistent, and ratings lived on different sites. Owners had no professional way to showcase listings to a national audience.

Process

  • Interviewed guests and owners across multiple property categories
  • Designed a category-driven search with strong visual filters
  • Built a property detail screen optimised for trust: media, day-pricing, amenities, reviews, map
  • Ran a beta with property owners to validate the listing creation flow
  • Polished the comments + ratings loop to keep listings honest and current

The solution

A search-first experience with strong category filters, a media-rich property detail page that answers every question in one scroll, day-by-day pricing that reflects real availability, and an owner dashboard that makes listing simple.

Outcome

  • Guests booked faster — fewer hops between apps to verify a property
  • Owners listed independently with the guided onboarding
  • Reviews + ratings became the primary trust signal

Applied Nielsen's 10 usability heuristics to identify friction and ship targeted fixes.

Match between system and real world

Finding · Generic filters didn't map to how guests actually search (by occasion, group size).

Fix · Category-led entry: weddings, family weekends, group camps — language guests already use.

Recognition rather than recall

Finding · Day-by-day pricing was hidden in a sub-screen.

Fix · Inline price calendar on the property page — see Friday's rate without tapping deeper.

Help and documentation

Finding · Owners abandoned the listing flow at media upload.

Fix · Step-by-step listing wizard with examples, image guidelines, and a 'save & continue later' option.

Aesthetic and minimalist design

Finding · Property pages buried the booking CTA under amenity lists.
